Hi peeps,

Just looking for a bit of advice. My current canon 70-200 2.8 non-IS is on its last legs. now i'm going to replace it some time soon.

heres my thinking replace it with either
  • 70-200 2.8 IS MK2
or
  • 135 F2.0
  • 200 2.8 MK2

I'm looking into shooting football so that's the criteria. i have a few bodies so if i got the 135 and 200 i could have one on each.

The Mk2 is a fantasic lens. To be honest that question can only be abswered by YOU. You know the focal lengths you shoot at.

I'd love a 135 f2 but not sure I'd give up my 70-200 to get it as they are different lenses!

IMO the 70-200mm f2.8 mk2 would be the far better choice. Forget the cost factor at this point. Put yourself in a real life situation where by a team are about to score, in the time it will take to change cameras you could have missed the vital shot! The time it takes to zoom, for me is a no brainier. Also consider Sigma's new 120-300mm f2.8 OS. It covers a wider range and is a stunning lens. It's priced a little higher than the 70-200mm but is a lot cheaper than Canon's 300mm f2.8 IS.
 
+1 for the 70-200 2.8 IS, but I'd also get a couple of low cost but good teleconverters. That way you could go anywhere from 70 to 400 and still get AF with good results.
 
As good as primes are, would you miss not having the 70-200 lens ?

Personally, I'd opt for the 70-200 lens with a view to a TC in the future. Depending on which football you are shooting, you may find the 200mm isn't long enough
 
Out of interest, how is it 'on its last legs' - I thought a lens didn't realy degrade much overtime?

@Shabba i'm pretty rough with my gear. it would probs be fine if i sent it in for service but i may aswell save the service + parts cash and spend that extra on something new
 
Ok well don't throw it away, someone will buy it cheap I'm sure.
