Advice on editing this shot please

I spotted a cool-looking tangle of branches in my local woods the other day, and went back to get a shot of it. I spent a bit of time editing the RAW file (which in itself is unusal me, I generally really like the jpegs straight from my camera) and got a shot that I really liked (the first one below)

Last night for some reason I had another play with it and came up witha version that's generally darker with more contrast. I feel like whichever one I'm looking at is my favourite, and when I view them together I genuinely can't decide which version I prefer.

Any thoughts or comments?

It's very allowable to have versions of an image, and one version doesn't have to be preferred.

In this case I'm tempted to say that the darker edit has more presence.
 
If you like both keep both.

But I'd keep No.1.

Or maybe No.1 and something not quite as extreme as No.2 :D
 
I like both. Maybe up the exposure value on version 2 a little? I like the contrast-heavy look but the overall image is quite dark.

There's nothing wrong with having multiple versions of your images. I go back and re-edit my old stuff all the time.
 
I like both of them and my favourite would depend on what mood I'm in. Having said that, as already mentioned you can have more than one version of a photo. I have quiet a few that I have several versions of the same photo. A lot will depend on what you want from a Photo. The first one is light and airy, while the second has a bit of a gothic touch to it imho
