I've not done any real macro photography before, but I just love the stuff that people post here and would like to have a go. I realise it takes a lot of skill and practice, but you've got to start somewhere.

I can't afford to buy a good macro lens. So I''m after advice on budget options. The Raynox DCR-250 adapter seems to be popular and some people get results using the cheap macro filters (+1, +2, +4 etc).

I'm using a Nikon D90 with a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens which has a 67mm thread.

Other than lens/adapter what other macro euqipment would people consider essential - e.g. shutter release cable/remote?

From memory the Raynox will fit on that lens. Although you may get some vignetting at anything less than full zoom. Either a tripod or a flash (or a really bright day out of doors) is essential. If you're tripod mounting then the remote shutter release (or you can use the camera self timer instead, but not on living things that wander about of course ;)) is best, as you'll end up with probably some longish exposure times.
