Hi my 100-400 went in for repair on the 14/9/2011 , it was purchased new from jessops on the 27/05/2011 , in between repair i was adviced by a staff memeber at jessops that it needed quite a lot done regarding repair and i should seek a replacement due to age and so many many faults in a lens a few months old, however in between this i was led to believe a canon rep was dealing with my issue so when i went in to collect my lens on the 14/10/2011 it apears that thier was a mistake ,i spent nearly two hours in trafford centre store trying to solve this problem. The manager told me he that he spoke to the area manager etc and also the top man at jessops who was going to get back in touch with him and then myself ,i haver not heard anything to date ,my problem was also a mark on the lens and the lens hood not fixing on properly, plus these repairs replacement range ynit x2 ,replacement af-system ,focusing ass usm and lens assy image stabilizer, total confidence in this lens is lost and i could do with some advice on my next step in getting a replacement lens .Thanks

Surely under the Sale Of Goods Act, which states that any goods sold should be in a fit state for the purpose required. Also if it fails within the first 6 months it is deemed to have an inherant fault and as far as I'm aware it is up to the company you brought it off to repair within a reasonable time or replace the item immediately. I'm sure if you look up the Sale Of Goods Act on the internet and contact Trading Standards you will find out your definate rights to a replacement. Hope this helps, I got the same lens at aroud the ssame time and I know I would be absolutely gutted if I had a similar problem. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply,i tried that in the shop ,i told them , one i was not happy with the chip on the lens ,two the hood is not locking on any more and with so many new parts i have lost confidence in the lens, the manager told me nothing he can do and he even said is area manager told him the same .Ihad no choice but to walk out with the repaired lens,i did get him to sign the repair reciept saying thier was a chip on the lens.

Having just come of the phone to jessops customer services i have been told that if the area manager as said i cannot have a replacement then i have no option but to accept his decission as customer services cannot overide his decission not to replace the lens.

Was the lens checked and it's condition clarified before the lens was sent away for repair ?
Where did Jessops send the lens for repair ?
Have you spoke to canon directly about your issues and complaints to see what, if any help they can offer.

I certainly wouldn't be accepting a lens back from repair that has been damaged !

Hope you manage to get it sorted

Hi, yes the lens was checked and noted , no marks or scratches, lens first sent to thomas cameras and then on to canon . The small chip on the lens is about 1.5mm not a massive problem but it just added to the overhaul issues. The lens hood does not lock any more ,again not a big problem but as stated its adds up . Trading standards tried to help but it seems it's down to jessops. The manager at jessops trafford centre signed a reciept to say the lens had a mark on it ,after return from repair..... I will speak to canon as they are the only people to date i have not spoken to.

So if I read this right, the lens was sent off in perfect condition and you have this documented, the lens returned from repair damaged and you have this documented. I fail to see how jessops or canon cannot / will not rectify this for you.

Have you spoken to canon directly about this ?

Do you mean a chip on the paint ?
If the glass is marked or damaged in any way thats not acceptable they should replace the lens
As said I would phone Canon straight away
Pete

No the chip is on the paint , but that was not a big issue ,it was the amount of parts needed on a lens 4months old ,the hood not locking on and the chip just did'nt help ....
