Advice on Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G

It's a DX lens. Pretty sure I read somewhere that nikon are releasing a 35mm 1.8 FX lens though. Or, the 35mm f2 is tiny, inexpensive and very decent optically.

I've got the 35 1.8 and its fantastic, a great match for my d5100, but can and does also work on the d700, but only at certain focal distances before it vignettes.

I've also owned the nikon 35mm f/2 and the sigma 30mm f/1.4. Did t like the Nikon much, or the sigma for that matter, but the new fx 35 1.8 will be horrendously priced, so you haven't much option.

The samyang would be the cheaper option (MF though).

I had the nikkor 35 f1.8 on my d90 when I bought the d800. Yes it will work but not very well (IMHO)

For the money the new nikkor will cost at launch, I'd go for the sigma every time. That launch cost will drop though.

The 35 f/2 is a useful little lens but IMHO nothing like as good in build or in iq as more recent 35s
