Advice on Tripod

Redsnapper my good fellow!! Either the 283 or 284 depending on how compact you need it.

The new version is very much worth the extra £5 or so

If you do a search on here you'll find many many happy users!
 
I think with £50 the only chance to get a solid tripod is to go to ebay and wait for a very good deal.

I would suggest to look for used aluminium Manfrotto 055 or 190 series. Sometimes they are available for good price.

a very presumptious remark, the tripod i listed above is very sturdy and has all the features you would need for most people.
There are other manufacturers besides manfrotto...
 
Looking at some of the high prices that tripods fetch I wouldn't think, with a £50 budget, you're going to get a tripod with all the bells and whistles on. The Ex-Pro that Steve recommends is going to give you exactly what you need. A steady base from which to shoot at the budget you have.

I have a Fancier WF-5603 tripod that cost around £100, will hold up to around 8Kg steady and does everything I need it to do. I don't think it would rate as well as some of the tripods about but it does perfectly well for me. I really don't think getting a £500+ tripod would make my shots any steadier, straighter or more level than mine does on the occasions I use it.

You don't want to skimp on a tripod. Best to save a little bit more & get something a little better than you currently plan :)

I have a Redsnapper 4section with ball head. I emphasise the ball head part, makes such a difference compared to the standard 3 way & makes the tripod almost enjoyable to use ;)

Mine came in at just over £100 though delivered......
