Advice on tripods and filters please

Can anybody offer me some advice on tripods and filters please

Ive blown my budget on my body and lenses so im having to pull the reins in a bit lol
Ive been looking at the weifeng range of tripods http://www.weifengchina.com/home.asp does anybody know of these ?

im also looking at Nd Grad filters and they seem to start at around £15 on Ebay

Any advise would be brilliant Thank You

The RS-284 looks interesting would anybody have any feedback on it also im still looking for some ND Grad filters
 
I'm very happy with my Kood Nd/ND grads (haven't noticed any colour cast on the ND2/ND4) - bought them (the kit with filter holder) from Premier Ink - cheaper than Cokin, iirc.
 
Very happy with my RS-284, but when I upgraded to a 1DS I also had to upgrade the head to get something sturdier... but the tripod itself is crazy good value!

Regarding filters.. if you;re just looking for something to play with get a cheap second hand set of drop in ones, Cokin / Kood etc.... I wouldn't spend too much though as if you get into using filters you'll want Lee eventually. I swore blind the Cokin set I had would be enough... but the Lee ones are just awesome!
 
Thank you for the reply's. Do the red snappers legs open out further than standard. I think I'm going to get some of the cheep filters grommets eBay and if I get on with them get some decent ones next year.

I've now got my red snapper "well it's in the house but can't have it until Christmas :( " and a cheap set of drop in nd grads.
Could anybody suggest a lens that would be good for portrait and close up work? I've been looking at prime lenses but I'm not sure if that's the best route

I would probably look at something like the nikkor 60mm micro lens which will cover both macro and portraits and can be found at very reasonable prices used.

The cheaper AF-D 60mm micro lens may be a bit of an issue on your camera body as it will not auto-focus however on reflection there is a 40mm micro af-s lens that will auto focus and can be had for £190 new, this would suit a crop body as a portrait lens with macro capabilities thrown into the mix.

I'd have a play with your new tripod now, that way if you are not happy with it you can always return it for a refund (as long as you keep it in "like new" condition).
