Advice on upgrading from a compact

Hi Folks, hope this is the right place for this question.

I'm looking to make the step up from my old compact camera to something a little bigger and was hoping you fine people could offer some advice.

I don't have a particular area of photography in mind, and my compact has served me well for the last 10 years, but I've always felt it was very limited when it came to wildlife and landscapes, hence the step up to something with a bigger lens and better zoom.

I've looked at a few camera reviews online and think a bridge/superzoom is the way to go; still point-and-shoot but with some options for manual control. My current selections are:

Sony DSC-HX100
Nikon P500
Canon sx40

I know they aren't on the bleeding edge tech wise, but as they are only a few years old they seem to offer good features at sub £300 prices. Has anybody had experience with any of these cameras, or perhaps offer alternatives? I'm currently leaning towards the Sony, but only because my compact is a cyber-shot and hasn't let me down yet.
 
given the current £40 cashback will narrow the price gap it may be worth looking at the newer HX200.

I actually had a play with the HX200 in Jessops over the weekend (and was amazed at how light it was). The £40 cash-back offer still leaves a price difference of about £60, which would go a long way to getting memory cards and spare battery. Would there really be a noticeable difference between the HX100 and HX200?
 
This link is £327 from Amazon themselves & after the £40 cashback (shown on the page so I am assuming that it is legit UK stock) that is £287.
Are you saying that you can find a new, UK stock HX100V for £227?
& yes, I think that you would notice a difference.

Ooh, thanks heidfirst. I'd seen the Amazon price but hadn't noticed the discount and (wrongly) assumed it had been bundled into the price. The cheapest I've seen the HX100 for is £264 delivered, but that HX200 throws a whole new light on things.
