Hi

My aunt (aged 72) has asked if I will take a 'flattering' photo of her. Head and shoulders only. That's fine, but she asked if there is any way of taking a photo which will somehow not show her double chin?

I said I'd have a go but I thought I'd ask you experts as my aunt is a lovely old girl and I'd like to do the best I can.

I only have one off camera flash with reflector, white and black card.

Thanks in advance for any tips etc you could give.

Shoot from above, making her look upwards. Will disguise her chin then

Always have a focal point away from her chin, usually the eyes. Make sure the eyes pop and more often than not you will not notice anything else.

Thanks for the replies, greatly appreciated.

Would you have her sitting or standing? or I guess I could try both.

Sitting down, natural light only. Studio lights/on board flash will make her skin look older :(

Thanks Betty.

thats the ticket...and a bit of swivel as if you just caught her coming out of buckingham palace..
a scarf or neat blouse collar would help

she's worth it!

Thank you. I'm quite looking forward to doing this now. Said I'd take them some time over Christmas when I'm off work.

Better still, if you shoot from above and shoot at f/3.5 - f4, you should get enough DOF to disguise her body, but still keeping it in shot :)
