Advice please

Hi there, im new here and have been looking in to buying my first dslr. Ive been in to jessops and handled various cameras and quite honestly dont have a favourite manufacturer or model. A work colleague of my mams is selling a canon eos 60d with canon ef-s 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 is, a canon ef-s 55-250mm f/4-5.6 is, and a canon ef 50mm f/1.8 lenses. Also a spare battery and 3 uv filters for £600. I would be mainly shooting lake district landscapes, wild life and occasional mountain biking shots. Would this camera and lenses be a good starting point for an dslr novice like me. I currently have a nikon compact that goes with me everywhere, but would like to improve my shooting and knowledge of photography. Any advice is most welcome thankyou. Regards Kev
 
I 'm not sure I can offer any help about the 60d but a second hand camera might be a good way to go if it has been looked after. Your friends package (??) sounds like a pretty good bunch of gear to start with, and I found it possible to trade loads of second hand stuff without loosing much at all, meaning I could work out what I actually needed and sell on what I didn't.
If the price seems good to you then go for it - most people look after their camera gear pretty well and it may have had only limited use (selling up all in one go seems to imply a lack of interest in photography to me, though I may well be wrong).
Good luck, and I hope you have some spare cash, as you may just find you start wanting more equipment, such as a flash, tripod etc etc.
 
Are you sure that's a 60D? That's a good price if it is - the body has only been out a couple of months and is £700+ alone. The other lenses add to the price. Are you sure it's not the 600D (it's still a good price IMHO even then....)

Everyone starts with a body and 18-55. Then a longer lens gets added and probably a 50 mm 1.8. That's the ideal starter kit (without spending an arm and a leg on lenses).
 
That sounds way to cheap to be a 60D, and pretty cheap for a 600D. Both are Canons latest cameras and will do you very well. The lenses arent amazing, but a good starter lenses and will last you well until you find your niche and want to upgrade to something more specialized.
If thats the actual price, for either the 60D or 600D, I'd snap it up.
 
Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I went to see the camera and indeed it is the 60d. It was bought and the guy just doesnt get on with it or use it much because of the size of the camera and kit!! He is going to buy a high spec point and shoot instead. I came home with the camera and kit after leaving a £300 deposit and going back tomorrow with the other £300. Its just dawning on me that ive got a real bargain. Just got to get out there now and practice and learn. Thanks again. Regards Kev

Thats a cracking deal you got there :thumbs:

the lenses go on fleabay for around £200 -250 so you have bagged a 60D for around £350 tops. A most excellent buy.
