Advice please

Hi there, i've been thinking about getting into photography for a while and have decided to finally go for it. All I want to do is take a few pics while out walking or fishing but want them to be of good quality without having to spend a fortune. I have found a Samsung wb700 in Currys, 18x optical zoom and 14.2 mega pixel reduced from £250 to £124, would this do the job? I would also like to take some good pics of the family and have them blown up. Or my other option is the Fugi finepix s2950 bridge camera which is around the same price.

Good plan to have your family blown up, that'll free up some finance to support the photography

Welcome to the forum, we probably wont see much of you now you've shown intent on blowing up the family soon, lol. Seriously, most of the people on here use dslr's but looking at the Samsung wb700's specs it sounds like a pretty reasonable compact. It should blow up to picture sizes of 14" x 10" at 300dpi, which is a good resolution for printing. At the sale price of £124 you can't really go wrong. It wont give you the results of a dslr but it's not going to cost that much either.

Thanks for the reply, which would you choose out of the samsung and a Fujifilm FinePix S2960 ?

Out of the 2 I'd go for the FinePix s2960, I actually got one of these in November for my sons birthday and I'm very impressed with it overall. It's very good outside with IQ and it finds the focus quite fast but a bit slower inside in low light. Similar Mp's so the max print size is about the same but because it's a bridge camera it feels more comfortable in the hand and it seems to be quite well built.
