At the moment I am using a Nikon D90. If I changed to a D700 would my 35mm DX AF & 55mm - 200mm DX AF lens work with the D700.

I have no problems with the D90 but just thinking ahead.

Thanks

It would work, but only DX crop mode which limits the D700 to 5MP.

So, kind of pointless.

Depends what you do with the images really.

They would work whilst you saved up for FF lenses, fine for the web but print size would be limited.

The 35mm can be used in full frame mode albeit with vignetting. The others would work in dx mode as stated above.

Best off selling the lenses with the d90 and getting a 50mm 1.8 and 70-300VR which would be most direct replacements.

Thanks for all the advice. As Mark say's I could use them as a stop gap whilst I save up the pennies.

One more question please. Would my existing lenses as above still autofocus ?.

On a D700 yes they would. It's only the budget models that don't have autofocus.

Okay friends, I am on the verg of buying a D700 body. Taking into account all that has been said about my present stock of lens, which I am at some point going to have to change. What is the designation of the lens I will require. At the mo I have the DX lens so what will I need, would they be AFS.

Secondly my present lenses are 52mm and I have filters to suit them, any idea on what size the necessary lenses are for the D700 ?.

A good one to start might be the 50mm 1.8d - around £60/£70 on the classifieds here. It has a 52mm filter ring size.

Not pointless at all. It works on ff mode and works really well up to f5.6 with some vignette cleanup

Any non DX lens. Doesn't need to be AF-S.
Filters will depend entirely on the lens. Most pro glass is 77mm thread, but not all are.

I've seen great images with DX lenses with FX bodys and the added vignette looks really good as well

On some images. ;)

I doubt you'd want to have it on every image. FF camera can only part of the cost as your finding out.

D700 is an excellent camera though. I considered one a few years ago until circumstances took over, but that would have been in addition to a D300, as I don't think I would have been able to afford the lenses to replace the lens range I have with DX.

I see someone is advertizing in the adds one of those for sale as he is changing to FF.

As said any non DX lens is fine.

AF-S and AF-D will autofocus on the D700

With Sigma lenses you need the DG designation. (DC are for crop sensors)
