Hi All,

At present I have D7200
Tamron SP 70-200mm f2.8 Di SP VC
Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD
Tamron SP A16 AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspheri

and to be honest I have been really pleased with the Tamron range, I'm looking at spending the cash again :eek:
I'm looking at the SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1.

1 Is this up there with the best of them
2 What else might I need ( apart from a ring flash :sneaky:)
3 other suggestion please :D
4 I think that it ????????????????? well for the moment anyway :rolleyes:

1. YES not an immense amount of difference between all macro lenses... I personally would say Sigma 105 is better built
2. Why do you need a ring flash???? Best way into macro is take your time to find what you need. What are you planning on shooting?

Haven't a clue yet to be honest, but would like to be able to take a shot of something, and having the right lens to hand would be a nice thing
does having VC play a part in macro as there a £100 difference between the Tamron version's ( yet to check Sigma)

In the pass I have taken a few bees / insects type shot but not what I would call corker's Like some guy called Bryn ;)
 
Frankly you won't notice much difference for macro subjects with/out VC but it is handy on larger subjects especially if ambient light is your source.

First off I assume you have a speedlight? Get yourself a softbox (dual layered) 20cmx20cm £9 or so on the flea bay.

;) just bare in mind practice practice practice.

Oh yes nearly forgot have you looked at Tamron 60mm .... @Neil Burnell can share his feelings about that.

Ooooh another D7200 user, nice one Shaun!

I've had the 90mm Tamron, was good but if you like tamrons the 60mm is miles better in my opinion, very very sharp! Personally I wouldn't bother with VC, if your serious about macro you will be looking at flash units and you will constantly strive to improve on light the more you get into it.

Have a look at my flickr for examples with the 60mm and D7200, I also have older shots with the 90mm.

Don't tell him this but he does half take great shots with it and his 90mm stuff was not even on same level tbh.

at Present I have a 80cm Octagon softbox a Triopo TR-986N ( same as YN 568) and some large reflectors ( came today did not realise they were that big :rolleyes:)
Ill check the 60mm
 
I've just re-bought the Sigma 105mm EX DG OS... I sold the last one when I went mirrorless but as soon as I came back to Nikon, I was on the hunt for another one. :) I'm also using it on a D7200.

I also bought one of THESE for a bit of lighting. It's not as adaptable as my old R1C1 but it's pretty good all the same.

What's wrong with a ring flash? I use a speed light at the mo on a bracket with soft box but find it quite bulky and cause quite a rotational force that gets tiring after a mo and having seen results with the Sigma EN-140 am seriously contemplating one.
 
@snerkler you need to check the shots with it again and ask the people how they have diffused it... If they will give you an answer as it tends be quite a secret.

Without diffusion they tend to give harsh lighting. A single flash with softbox is not what I call bulky anymore :D

Might be better off with the new Venus dual light.... check out Thomas Shahan review on the tube.

ok thanks
both still life and some insect type stuff:) but I must admit good flower shots look great as well as insects,guess out of the 2 about 65-35 in flowers favour :)

Well as flowers being the main subject that wont mind you getting close... then 60mm is a cracker of a lens.
