Hello peeps,

Not really a tech head and my lappy is not behaving as it did. I did a reset a few weeks ago and everything seemed to be fine, but now it appears to be playing up again, so it'g getting another reset.

When this is complete, will it truely remove all the rubbish in the registry or do i need to get in there and remove manually ?

I'm aware that playing in there is adviseable, but if needs be, we;ll have a go.

Hmm - I'd need LOTS more info to have a clue what the problem is.....

What spec of laptop? What version of Windows (or MacOS???)? What problems are you having? How did you 'reset' it - complete wipe & re-install? If so, from recovery disk or from original Windows disk?

Phil

It's a Toshiba, Intel centrino, 3gb ram, Vista

Prob's,

When starting up and i sign in, instead of loading, it goes to a black screen then fires up, sometimes doesn't so have to disconnect the power.

Also here it beep without reason, as if trying to do something when a menu box is open( ie; small box to close something down)

the touch pad appears to have a mind of it's own occasionally.

Last time i reset was done via a option within the system.

Ok - errors on boot-up can indicate actual hardware problem. Would need to know more about what 'reset' actually did. It sounds like a reset of bios to default settings. This will not help if Vista is corrupted at all.

Personally I can't stand Vista and would wipe it & reinstall with Windows 7 or Windows XP, but only after it had been checked for hardware problems.

I think this patient needs to go and see a PC doctor! NHS direct (aka TalkPhotography) can't help here!

Not really considering that you have no idea what software the OP has and whether there are Mac alternatives/versions of it as well as the fact the OP has to learn to use the new OS and software.

Not an attack on you, just that it annoys me when people seem to think that an Apple product is the all singing miracle of technology when there are many more factors than 'MAKE' to take into consideration.

toshibas arent the most robust of machines for starters. it could be a memory issue and/or a hard drive issue.

id start with a few checks like a chkdsk and a memtest (google is your friend).

as for going mac, thats an expensive and unnecessary way of fixing a hardware fault to be honest.
