just been reading all the advice everybody gave to a newbie. Good and very helpful it was to. Well here is another newbie wanting a bit more. Iv'e got a Canon 1000d I set up the shot go the push the shutter button and I get a "busy light " blink in the corner of the viewfinder, I then move to another area do a test shot, sometimes it works, then go back to my original shot and take the pic.the thing is why does this happen sometimes? I hope Iv'e explained it right.

If its too dark even with a flashgun the camera may not work. A camera needs a certain amount of light to function properly, as Matthew has said.

As a by the by , I had the oppertunity to work at Thames TV studio as it used to be on behalf of the company I worked for, and the studio lights you just wouldn't believe could be so bright, sunlight had nothing on what the studio lights were pumping out, the clothes they were wearing so vivid (they were shooting a childrens program at the time).

Iv'e never rearly noticed about it being to dark surely the flash would compensate to be able to take a pic in a dark situation

The camera won't take a photograph until its in focus (unless you have it set otherwise) so if it is dark, the camera will be hunting and failing to find the focus point... Are you using a built in flash or an add on flash?

I've just had a play with my 450D which if memory serves me correctly works on very similar software, now under very dark conditions the on board flash will not fire for long enough for the AF to lock on and as such gives a busy signal, you will need to get a bit more light of the situation, out of interest what were you trying to take a picture of??
