AF and Polarizing Filters

Simple question, at least to those who know! I've been looking at Polarizing Filters, as I'm off on a scenic holiday and want some decent landscape / sky /water shots.
Is it possible to shoot with Auto-Focus or not?

Use a circular polariser and you can AF fine. The only issue you may run into is if your front lens element rotates during focusing. If this is the case, you'll have to focus, then very carefully try to turn the polariser without disturbing the front element. Not easy, but possible.

Would you guys recommend a grad polariser or just a normal CPL or both?

I can grad effects using Lightroom or photoshop so is there a need for the extra investment?

Thanks

There is no such thing as a grad polariser, it either polarises or doesn't. I suspect you are looking at graduated ND filters.

You can get similar effects in LR or PS, if you shoot RAW, but it can be usefull to use an ND grad at the time of shooting.
It's up to you really.

Yes that is what I meant, I will see how I go with what I have just purchased, may have to buy one of the one's you have suggested, I'm not sure it is an effect that is always needed, would you use it in portraits?

This is getting out to be a very expensive hobby, but when I do take a nice picture, it does feel like a nice sense of achievement.

Thank you kindly.

Sorry I read it wrong, I know what you mean now, would not need it in portraits at all.

You wouldn't use an ND grad on a portrait no, and probably not a polariser, but that would depend entirely on the location.
