AF Lens or Camera

I was recently told that the D300 has a faster AF response than the D80, I was under the impression that the AF came from the Lens.
So I ask, where does the AF responed from Camera or Lens ?....

It will have a lot to do with the lens (SWM, HSM etc) but I do think the D300 has a quicker AF than the D80, however I haven't tested the two side by side with the same lens, so I can't say thats definately right

Well it's hardly surprising really as the D300 is a later model, and AF response tends to improve with subsequent models. The AF motor is in the lens, but is driven from the camera body, so any body improvement in AF detection and response will be passed to the lens.
