Hi guys
We are new on the platform and joined due to several requests from members to share our experience.
The aim of the Afghan Box Camera Project is to provide a record of the kamra-e-faoree (Afghan Box Camera) which as a living form of photography is on the brink of disappearing in Afghanistan. They used this type of photography prime rely to take ID photos.
We, that is Lukas Birk (photographer/artists) and Sean Foley (specialized in visual anthropology) have started a research on the topic with a trip to Afghanistan last year.
You can access all the research on www.afghanboxcamera.com. With photos, maps, portfolios info on history etc
We also have an illustrated manual on how to build a box camera as well as video instructions on how to use it or apply techniques.
The project is open source. Any info or ideas are very welcome.
We also plan a trip back to Afghanistan in the summer as we have a book in the pipe for the research.
