Hi has anyone experience of these? The genuine article is a bit out of my pocket at the moment, and anyway I don't really need one. Just a fad.
There seems to be a lot on offer and all at about the same price. I am sure they must all come out of the same stable.
Comments from anyone who has one would be welcome.
 
I got one nearly a year ago, and the few times I've used it, it has worked perfectly. I got a version off Ebay made by a company called Link Delight. (I think)

I mainly got it for the extra frames per second you can get with certain batteries, and that worked fine. I was tempted to get a EN-EL4a that the same seller was selling, but but he said there were slight fitting issues.

There was a sporting event were I was holding the camera in mostly portrait orientation and it was a lot more comfortable than trying that without. I don't find it as comfortable as the regular grip on the body, but after having a play with a D3 a few weeks ago, I would rather use the MB-D10. (Not that I have a choice ;) :lol:)
 
Thanks I only really need it for the portrait mode, The normal four fps is quite fast enough for any work I do.
 
No Mike perhaps I confused you, "I confuse myself sometimes" four fps is what I choose to use!

Link Delight sell the Meike grip as do others. I had a major falling out with them over a faulty one they sent and which took just over 100 days to actually sort but it is sorted now and the thing works fine. I would say that I was just unlucky. The only real difference is that the genuine article is made of the same material as your camera whilst the copy is made from plastic, albeit good plastic!

Would I buy another? Yes, if I change my D200 for a D300 I will probably get another one for it. I have a genuine Nikon one on the D200.
 
Looks as if you have saved me £200. No you have'nt cos I did'nt have it in the first place. I will order one. £60 is not exactly a fortune and my cameras get very light use.

I paid £64.99 with 2 aftermarket batteries so you save on them too.
 
The Link Delight Meike one gets another thumbs up from me!

Had a panic the one day when the screen started flickering and the AF wouldn't work, but then realised it was because the AA batteries in the grip were about flat! :bonk:
 
Recieved my grip today, I bought a linkdelight one but 2 months later recieved a Meike one.. Its plastic and the d300s is magnesium, it feel flimsy and the screw to screw it on keeps coming a bit loose (ie it has play in it but doesnt undo), no idea how it will stand the test of time.

Great upgrade btw the camera is more square now so much easier to hold, and feels more like a pro camera even if the grip is flimsy. Will upgrade to nikons magnesium version when £200 is spare.

However the portrait mode shutter button is much much much better than the official mb-d10 which i found too sensitive, you couldnt focus then release shutter in 2 movements with the official grip, pressing it gently to focus would set off the shutter.

Linkdelight and Meike are the same. Linkdelight is the name of the company, and Meike is the make of grip (I believe).

The screw is meant to be like that apparently. It's not loose, it just has some play. I've had my grip on pretty much the entire time I've owned it, and it has wobbled, or come loose, or felt flimsy at all. It may be plastic, but it's damn strong plastic. And with the batteries in (whichever you choose to use), it's solid as a rock.

re: focus with the shutter button.. I focus with my thumb on the AF-ON button on the back. Focus locks, then fire the shutter. Saves that annoying, heavy handed accidental shot when you mean to focus with the shutter button, but press too hard. Or, change your settings to only fire when in focus?

I agree about the portrait shutter button though, very good. And the menu rocker button is, IMO, better than the one on the back of the camera.
