Airport Security

A modern camera will go through without comment. Older vintage equipment tends to be built of lumps proper metal and usually warrants having the bag open for a look and a swab. Except for fast film (as noted by Vaughan) security scanners don't pose a threat to photographic equipment.

At least, that's my experience.

November when I flew to Dublin , my K-x was swabbed after going through the scanner

My d90 has been through a few times now. It has made my pics come out rubbish ( that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it ) ;-).

They don't like loads of wires and batteries for some reason

will quite often get explosives swabbed if you've got a large amount of kit, but no damage to the camera from xrays etc, nope.

If you want a laugh,
I've had a vinyl record go through the scanner... yep a flat disc of plastic

Airport scanners won't damage your gear, although very fast film does present some risk. AFAIK, multiple exposures - going through several airports - increase it, but I never had any problems in my film days.

The security checks seem to vary too. I've been through a few in Africa where they were pretty casual and no-one seemed too concerned. Dubai usually ask you to take your laptop out of the bag, but the last time I went though there - very late at night - the security lady just shook her head sleepily when I asked her if she wanted me to do this.

Haha just one single vinyl record? Seem a little extreme. I recently flew from Bristol and got stripped searched. Turns out it was a buckle on my boots .
