Hiya all Ive just had an e-mail from Alamy regarding there new upload service. The main point that I have noticed is that reportage/press photos now have to meet the 48mb minimum file size to be accepted, please read copied e-mail below.

Dear Contributor,

We are currently testing AlamyUpload and are on track for
beginning the gradual roll-out of this new facility to
contributors during the last quarter of this year. We'll
be letting you know the exact timescales for this as soon
as we can.

In the meantime we'd like to let you know about the
technical requirements to use this facility.

There are two options available to you - AlamyUpload
and Standard Upload.

AlamyUpload is supported for:

Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP
- Internet Explorer 6 or later
- Firefox 1.5 (with JRE 1.4 or later)
- AOL 9 or later (if Internet Explorer 6 or later is installed).

Mac OSX
- Safari
- Firefox 1.5 (Mac OSX 10.4 only)

We recommend that you use AlamyUpload, but should you not
wish to upgrade your computer to meet the above requirements,
you can try using Standard Upload. However, this method has
less flexibility and will be slower.

In order to use AlamyUpload, you may need what are known
as "administrator privileges" on your computer. If you own
the machine you are using, it is likely that this is already
the case.

If you have any queries about these technical requirements,
we suggest that in the first instance you speak to your
technical advisor.

In line with our submission guidelines, all images submitted
Online must be at least 48Mb uncompressed. This now also
applies to reportage images. Files which are smaller than
this will be rejected by the System.

Kind regards

that counts out a fair few cameras doesnt it?

nice one Gary..thanks!

even then, you have to be careful. I've had a lot of images rejected for softness, but that may be partly due to me not up-resing properly and using naff lenses and having all my sharpening turned off.

I'm gonna start again with them when they finaly kick out upload as it should mean a slightly quicker turn around.

Shouldn't be so bad when I get my d200 though. The only camera I'm aware fo that chucks out 48mb 8bit tiffs is the 1ds mk2 @ 16mp.

Strangely enough, I used to get better results in large files with my panasonic fz30. for some reason it seemed to interpolate well up to 48mb, better than the d70 definately and it's only 2mp more.

ive never considered sending anything to them, confidence issues

i dont think i can handle the rejection *whimpers*
