South-East England Aldershot/Farnham area

A quarry turned natural reserve, there's a lot of birds down there on the water - don't know what is of interest, they've always been too far for my lenses, well apart from this swan below - I've shot sunsets down there, there is a large pond plus a few small ponds.

I think location is also called Tices Meadow......never made it there yet but eyeballed every time I drive the A31northbound to home north of Guildford.

There's lots of permissive access MoD land around here. There are lots of deer but they are quite shy and you have to work hard to see them, and even harder to photograph them. In theory you can't use a camera on the MoD land, but in practice it's never been a problem.

There are several small lakes/ponds in the area for water birds

I've been meaning to respond to this thread and my first response was going to be Thursley but moaten beat me! The patchwork of sandy heathland, much of it nature reserves or open access army land*, is one of the defining features of area. Surrey Bird Club has a website with daily updates of sightings which is a good place to look though for locations.

How far is the relocation, and how large a radius of places are you looking for?

* some of it is fully open access 24/7, other parts are closed when red flags are flying but open when they're not.

Farnham Common is a massive Heath area which also has an avenue of trees near the Castle. There are many paths to take and a stream flowing through it.
Farnham town centre has many old buildings as well which can be accessed directly from the Common. Also next to the Castle is the cricket ground which has a cafe to enjoy tea etc after a long walk or watching a match.

Just thinking Aldershot has playing fields along the A325 which have many football matches to watch free of charge Sunday's. Just 1/2 a mile further towards Farnborough is the main parade field which holds many events and of course bi-anually Farnborough the next town from Aldershot has the Farnborough Air Show.
And Ash nearby has a massive lake where there is speed boats and water skiing plus a decent pub/restaurant.

As has been mentioned Fleet Pond (one of my favourites), Frensham Little Pond (has a nice cafe with a hide and screen further around the lake) and the Blackwater Valley walk.

Also checkout the River Wey walk, starts at Godalming and goes through Guildford and up past the M25 (There is little access between Farnham & Godalming)

Welcome to the area

Just down the road you have the watercress line and winchester as well going the other way you have guildford and surrounding river wey and hogs back :)

If you want WW2 bunkers and Pil boxes then head over to the heathland / nature reserves in and around blackbushe airport
