looking for an external monitor for my 5d mk3, when making videos. don't want to spend smallhd/marshall money anybody know of any other more cost effective alternatives.
I use a feelworld monitor that cost about £100 or so. It's HD and does a good job. There are a ton of budget options out there. Have a look here for plenty of real world experiences with budget monitors http://personal-view.com/talks/categories/monitors-viewfinders
I bought a swivi external 5inch monitor that screws under the camera and can be used with the Manfrotto quick release plate.......the swivel LCD makes low slider shots and high tripod shots much more manageable........the display is not hd but that is not a biggie for me and it also helps follow manual focus etc
In the past I tried 7inch lilliput on my canon 5d mk3 but was warned that the weight of it with the Sony battery could cause the hotshoe to come loose or be damaged......so I ditched that idea and went for the swivi
