Yes
Having a free Saturday (31st October) I thought I might visit a steam railway.

Virtually everyone seems to be doing a Halloween/Wizards weekend then.

So imagine a lone male turns up at one of the railways running one of these themed weekends. Naturally they're going to be full of kids.

I'm there to photograph the railway/steam trains but reluctant to go to one in case some parents think I'm there for the wrong reasons.

It seems a sad reflection on society today.

Just go.......:suspect: all the kids will be dressed in black and probably have a mask on.

Can we leaves clothes/hats/tshirts etc out of the thread?!!!!

Just think it's a sad reflection on society that you feel guilty trying to enjoy your hobby.

Yes it's a sad state of affairs, no need for a sense of humor failure. Just go another day. You'll be more comfortable and get better images at the end of the day.

I suspect you wont be the only guy taking pictures. And I suppose it'll be mainly of the Loco's and rolling stock.

I've done a couple of similar shoots for travel mags, and no one took a bit of notice.

Not a sense of humour failure! I was trying to make a serious point with thread.

Whilst it may be sad and you may feel paranoid there is no reason you should not enjoy your hobby KoG... ...if you really feel that uncomfortable about it could you not take a tog buddy or other person with you to make you feel more comfortable... ;)

Just a thought... :D

:p

I dont understand this coming up? I've never been hassled for taking photos with kids around.

Do peodophiles get off on pictures of children in clothes? Its really a perculiar idea. Why would a peodophile take pictures of children?

Strange isn't it?!!!!

Steve.

Get yourself a reflective jacket with Talk Photography Photographer printed on the back and no one will even think to bother you ;)

I'd go along and try make the best of the day, it may well give you a wee confidence boost to continue doing it more often at any events that interest you whether there is going to be kids there or not.

Tommy.

AFAIK, paedophiles are more interested in the sort of images they can download from illegal websites etc. The whole fear and paranoia issue seems to have been fostered and encouraged by the government, for it's own purposes - more checks, regulations and databases = more control.

Perhaps I've been lucky, but personally I've never had any problems, although I appreciate there are probably parents out there who always assume the worst of anybody.

Earlier this year I was in Lytham St. Annes and wanted to take a couple of shots of the Les Dawson memorial statue, which is in a garden enclosure next to the beach. At the time, there were some families with a number of children having a picnic a few yards away and I thought it best not to even look over towards them. They must have seen me, but nobody approached me and I went about my business with no problems. In saying that, I picked an angle whereby the camera wasn't pointing in their direction, so perhaps that helped.

It is sad nevertheless when photographers have to be on the lookout for any possible confrontation just for simply pursuing a hobby.

It is "a sad reflection on society today", no doubt about it.
And what is worse is that I have no idea about just what the answer is?

Get on Photoshop and create a "I am CRB checked" badge and you'll be fine.

go in a uniform...anything official will do...dont forget the peaked hat:)
