Am I being unreasonable?

Just after your thoughts on this one.....

I've had a request through from someone wanting to use one of my Flickr images in an e-essay/book and on their website.

The request contained the usual statement, operating on a shoe-string etc etc and that the ebooks arent expected to make a great deal of money. They didnt actually ask if they could have the image for free - but thats the way it was going.

Ive sent a reply back saying that i'm more than happy for them to use the image subject to a fee - I've also said that i appreciate they're on a budget and therefore wouldnt expect the sort of payment that the likes of getty and alamy want.

What do you think? Is this reasonable? I mean after all they're not giving their ebook away free, why should i with my picture?

definitely - they can only say yes or no, the alternative is to ask for prominent credit for the shot - possibly driving a paying commission further down the line - or even ask for payment after the book has sold a set volume of copies
