Guys,
Since getting into photography again (D90 5 years ago, then stopped using it for two years) to D7000 3 months ago I now want to get the new FX Nikon when it comes out later this year.......Why????
Well yesterday at the Nikon training class I met a real nice guy that had a old model 70-200mm on his D7000 and he let me try it out and I immediately got hit with the WoW factor. I went over to my favourite Nikon shop in Times Square (Aver Awards) and had a look at the New 70-20mm....... that is one sweet looking lens.
After chatting with the guy there he explained to me about the DX verses FX camera bodies and that was me sold.
My plan will be to keep the D7000 until the new FX model comes out and then sell the D7000 and 18/200 lens and start again but this time getting the 3 nice lenses below;
12-24 /2.8
24-70 /2.8
70-200 /2.8

What do you think, am I crazy or just hooked:):):):):)?????

It sounds like a typical case of GAS to me. That's Gear Acquisition Syndrome. I think the majority here suffer the same affliction :lol:
 
In the absence of any rational or objective justification, as seems to be the case here ;) it's known as a bad attack of GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

Don't worry about it - we all get it from time to time. To avoid disappointment, just be aware that 99% of the time it makes bu99er all difference to the quality of the pictures we take, in the same way that the missus' expensive new shoes don't make her walk any faster, or the matching handbag carry more lipsticks. But new gear does make the process of taking pictures more fun. Enjoy :thumbs:

BTW, your three primes are all zooms :D

Funny S#@$......I will need to remember that the next time the old lady buys shoes.....like twice a week:lol::lol::lol::lol:

As for prime or zooms do you see that as being a big problem, I do have the 50mm f1.4g already??

Beware primes :eek: They are dangerously seductive and addictive, with exotic specifications and prices to match, plus you need three to cover the range of one zoom. They are just gorgeous things, to own and to use. They are the Chanel handbags of the camera world.

But if you need low f/numbers, that's the way to go. Do you? ;)

BTW I wish the wife liked Channel handbags they are 100% cheaper than the Louis Vertong or what ever they are called bags...........they don't even come with a full set of golf clubs hanging out of them
 
Well I would say you already hold the moral high ground, which is half the battle - if it wasn't for that rather indulgent looking motorcycle of yours.

What is it BTW? Hard to tell, but it doesn't look like a regular Harley?
 
To the OP, considering a couple of your recent threads it may be more prudent to "learn" about photography before you invest any more money. Personally and if i were you, I would not upgrade until I no longer used "scene" modes and fully understood the mechanics of my current kit. It would be similar to me buying a concert piano when I can't even play Londons burning on a recorder!

I kind of understand what you are saying but unfourtuneatly I am the kind of guy that likes new toys
Another way to look at it is why buy a car that can nearly do 200 mph when the speed limit is 70........ Because I can

I don't want to point out the blindingly obvious (ok, I do :naughty:), but none of those are primes.....;)
 
Funny. I'm downgrading from a D700 to a D7000 as I've realised that 600 quid difference in price is some really nice glass. Glass is the key. Don't be fooled by sales pitch. Full frame is lovely, but the D7000 is a lot of camera and I'm many ways better than the D700.

Being a nikon fan it hurts to say this is the funniest comment I have read this morning :)

Waits for op to question the nikon Canon gap... :) to save him the trouble, nikon are far better as they are all black and you generally can't get white lenses! :)

Absolutely correct :D Ridiculous toys are a basic human right (preferably with a V8).
 
I think you mean D80? The D90 weren't around five years ago :lol:

Yeah GAS get's to all photographers sometime in their career and I got it but I've eventually convinced myself I don't need most of my gear and sold it all on apart from my DSLR and one kit lens :)

Hard to believe but the same bike......its amazing what 84K can do
Its the same as photography, start of with the basic (d7000) and move on to the D800.........whats wrong with that

Are you crazy or hooked? Who cares - you can afford to do it anyway, so do it.:shrug:

Andy I am sorry but I didn't mean that the D7000 is a basic camera I love my D7000, I just want to get a FX Body now and try that "its a new toys thing"
 
Update.
Just did a photo trip to the Philippines with the guys from Photo Malaysia and the day before I went I picked up a new 24/70mm f2.8 lens and love it. I will pick up a new D3s on Tuesday along with a new 70/200mm f2.8 as well.

I know its tempting to spend as much money as possible on kit, but do you know exactly what you want or do you just want the most expensive items you can get your hands on :lol:?

I mean, you didn't know what primes are, you want full frame then list lenses you desire one of which is a crop only lens (and did you have a D90 five years ago?!)!

Seriously, I would do some research into the kit first as your're a salesmans wet dream, and he'll flog you so much stuff you don't need if he even gets a faint whiff of spenditis! Look at what you want to achieve in photography and base your kit around that, rather than whats burning a hole in your pocket.

Then send the money you've saved over to me :D

D7000 sold already
I now have the 24/70mm f2.8 and a 50mm f1.4G (prime)
On Tuesday I will get the D3s and the 70/200mm f2.8
Next month the 14/24mm f2.8........and after that who knows, I maybe sell it all and get another Harley:):):)

Leave the guy alone! He knows exactly what he wants and that just so happens to be the most expensive items he can lay his hand on! :)

It's not like he's the only sufferer. I sold my old 40D for £400 and replaced it with a camera costing 5x the price. I may be the only member of my family that can see any difference at all in the output, but what do they know! :D
