Am I the only Nikon P7700 owner?

I used to own a Fuji X10 & thoroughly enjoyed participating the X10 thread but due to my personal circumstances sold it & bought a Nikon P7700 but am feeling very lonely - unless anyone else has one?
 
No, I got bought one recently.

Oddly I too had an X10 but sold that to my brother to put towards a 35mm lens.

I needed something lighter for bad days so I could keep shooting.

I love the 200mm equivalent lens, the handling (probably one of the best grips on a compact as standard) the iQ isn't bad either, I've been getting some nice shots shooting through the double glazing at up to ISO 800.

It seems to produce the best results shooting with as lower ISO as possible (80 if you can) and shooting RAW.
 
Hi Ian - yippee so I'm not the only one but it does look like we no longer own the 'common as muck' X10 :lol:

I have some similarities as you with health & mobility with lots of problems not the least of which is being a wheelchair user outside of the home. In the last two years I have bought & sold a DSLR too heavy, a CSC I also felt was too heavy at that point but now reconsidering a second hand one. Going too small with a Canon S95 then finalising on the X10 but selling to get the Nikon for one main feature the fully articulating LCD. This is very good, when in the wheelchair, for getting those endless flower shots as the right angle - well right for me.

I have looked in on the DPreview forum but I don't like the way the folks on there communicate with each other & rave about every picture that is posted when my view it can be crap. But there are the odd tips I try out.

The 7700 is OK but I like it but am not in love with it but not sure I ever would be with any camera :lol:
 
I was going to become a Nikon P7700 owner a while ago, but no viewfinder put me off. I opted for an old Canon Compact with a viewfinder instead. My missus is a wheelchair user, and she also uses an Old Canon Compact.

I do keep looking at the Nikon Compacts, but just not managed to get really worked up about them.
 
It would seem that the Nikon compacts don't seem to draw people as much as Canon, Fuji and so on. They always seem to get reduced in price more quickly and have lower resale values. This includes cameras such as the V1/J1 which are a bargain now.
Not sure where Nikon are going wrong but must be somewhere?

(Just an observation, I have absolutely no interest in a camera makers war!)
 
Just looks a little clumsy to me, I am not too keen they way the top of the camera slopes downwards. I always feel when pulling it out of a pocket, it may get stuck. That's if you have a pocket big enough for it that is.

I must admit lack of viewfinder especially now it's sunny is a b*gger.

So I am not sure in a few months time where I'll be. I enjoyed the Panasonic G2 that was bought for my wife last year but at that time was too heavy for me in the state I was then in. Sorry we sold it after a few months & bought her a Panasonic TZ30 but with which I am totally underwhelmed.

Fully agree with you with the compacts but with the DSLR's it seems half & half especially on TP :thinking:

I was never thinking it would serve as a pocket camera & that's why at one point I bought a Canon S95 but soon after I felt that was far too small even though my fingers are quite small :lol:

Your comment about the 'top of the camera sloping down' confuses me as it doesn't unless you mean the bit where the sub command dial is?

Yes that's the bit I really don't like, it reminds me of a step. But if I found one going really cheap, I would probably buy it as a keep in the car standby :)

I regard the camera as a bit of a brick - an ugly beast -especially after owning the X10 but the sloping sub command dial makes reaching/operating it easy so for me it's a plus.
 
I'm really keen on the P7700 - was recomended the Lumix FZ200 (which is ace) - but just like the look and feel of the P7700 and the fact I can use speed lights. Tried to buy on in the classified but missed out so going to keep searching - will make an ideal fishing camera and general walkabout shooter :)

Yes saw the thread & by goodness it was close. Not many on EBay & those on there have gone for higher prices. Perhaps if you put a wanted ad on TP?

Wex are knocking them out for £299 including the nikon case at present

I've had one for months. Superb little camera. Produces some nice images. I would happily recommend it.

I just got mine today.........haven't had a chance to play with it yet other than indoors for a while.

Any setting up tips would be useful.........although I intend to use it mainly in Aperture Priority mode.

I already own a Fuji X10 and X100, but I fund the X10 a bit small and the fixed focus lens on the X100 a bit limiting. I've made some smashing photographs with them both though.

I want the P7700 as my "everyday carry" - and I still intend to keep my "proper" DSLRs for use when I'm out on a dedicated photography day.
 
Well mine arrived today!Very impressed with it for just over £200.Great feel,well built and very well laid out.Love the screen as its fully articulating.Images are actually better than I was expecting TBH.Certainly ticks most the boxes for me.:D
 
Looks like a happy pooch!..nice set mate although not a big fan of large watermarks as takes your eye away from the image imo..
