It's not a legal requirement in the UK at the moment but I read something recently that said that it is being introduced across the whole of the EU so it will become a requirement here some time soon. I think it will only apply to brand new cars from when it is introduced so you won't have to have your car modded.
Bristolian said:The proposal for daytime running lights for the EU is to have either dipped headlights or dim-dipped headlights on all the time that the ignition is switched on. You are right that it will only apply to new cars ... at least initially.
AFAIK having amber "extremity" lights is illegal on vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (or whatever name they are using this week) of less than 3 tonnes. Sorry, haven't got round to re-installing Hughes Motoring Law on the PC yet so can't look it upCurrent extremity lghts are limited to 5 Watts each. Having said that, the chances of seeing a traffic police vehicle is remote and having them take an interest is even more remote so you'd probably get away with it for years
Hmm, thinking about this a little more the weight limit may be 2 tonnes rather than 3. When the Series 2 Discovery (2.2 tonnes) was launched in 1998 they had amber extremity lights (resistors were used to lower the current through the indicator bulb and make it look like 5W).

Interesting because I often see transit vans with those Amber lights on which to me is dangerous because when you're overtaking them on a motorway if you look quickly it looks like they're indicating to pull out.
Mind you I should know it's not true as White van man doesn't indicate![]()
maybe you should take time to concentrate then instead of having a quick look![]()
Dolt
probably both
