Hi All

I'm off to Amsterdam on Sunday for a week with work. I don't know how much free time I'm going to have but the camera is getting packed and coming long with me. So with that in mind and the fact that I've never been to Amsterdam is there any good locations for photography. :D

Sitting patiently waiting to see how many times the Red Light district gets mentioned!!! :naughty:

Thanks in advance for your advice

Gerald

Just go to one of the coffee shops. A cuppa and a spliff and everywhere will be photogenic!

Andy

Gerald , Quite often just walking past the coffee shops will make all things seem photogenic , just breath deeply as you walk by ;).

In all seriousness be very careful taking photos of the girls in the red light areas. Some of the managers really don't like it.

Having said that you'll have a ball, it's a great city and in the most part really friendly.

Have a look at google maps and see some of the shots that others have taken.

I wouldn't take a camera anywhere near the Red Light area.

Not unless you want your camera (or you) in a river with a few broken parts

Have a look at Vondelpark. Some nice features, fountains, birds etc. Well worth a visit

God Robin way to overreact. Just don't point the camera at the girls and you'll be fine. Amsterdam is a damn beautiful place.

The red light district and the areas around it genuinely are the most photogenic. plenty of street, abstract and cityscape for you.

I really, really recommend trying the cannabis too. When in 'dam.

That's not quite true though. I've been several times and never had any trouble from anyone. Agree with what has been said above about photographing the women but other than that you will be fine. Some great architecture in the Red Light area.

The Central Station is great place to start, then just work south away from it. Plenty of backstreets and interesting sights all over. I recommend a trip to the Zoo as well if you have time - the lions are easily photographed due to their enclosure.

Hope that helps

Thanks all for you're replies.

I have been warned about photographic the women. Shame :(, but I'd rather have my camera in piece for the journey home.

Don't know how much time I'll have. Hopefully make a coffee shop, but I'll be working 9am to 7-8pm :-( while there. Had that sprung on me yesterday afternoon. So just hoping to get something during the evening.

Vondelpark does look interesting Dave, just done a search in flickr

I've seen some pics of the central station and it looks interesting. City abstracts/scapes are something I've never really done, so that would be interesting to try.

I'm only taken the camera, 24-105, spare batteries and cards. I'd love to take the 17-40, but thats being repaired at the moment :'(

Thanks again for your help and I'm going with a open mind and will hopefully get something.

Gerald
