Anyone going on this? I'd almost signed up for the Birmingham walk, then realised I'll be traveling that day!

It's £12 but you get a roll of film apparently, so not all bad.

I've just signed up to the Leicester walk. It's being led by https://leicester-lofi.co.uk/ who I'd never heard of before.

I've also contacted Leicester lo fi about going over to their darkroom premises too (open Weds evenings).

The main walk page states it's a Kodak film (emulsion not yet known but I'm assuming 35mm) included in the £12 walk price PLUS dev and scan of said film by AW. That's a bit of bargain if you ask me even if you have to pay postage.

I noticed a familiar name in the list of guides @Penlens :)

On topic - I see there is one in Runcorn. I think that's grabbed my curiosity!

Yes, I'll be leading the Eastbourne walk! I think it's going to be an interesting day with a roll of film.

Also, free film developing and scanning.

Well I signed up for the Runcorn one. If a few people go we could perhaps post our own "competition" thread (no prizes - just in the style of the new old film challenge thread)

What we're missing is £12 for a film plus process and scan is about half what it normally costs me so AW are paying me to do this except there isn't one close enough for me to get to.
Some thoughts: are you within striking distance of a place which might offer the potential of a photowalk for people to come to, and if so, might you be interested in hosting a walk?

Thanks. The answer to both is not really, my bag is landscape, I live on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and I already go out once every week on a Photowalk but tbh I like the solitude of my own company on those walks. I was interested in the AW walks rather selfishly because it would be something different for me and being on a guided walk would make it easy Maybe if they have a successful day they will run more then maybe there will be something close to me.

The group here used to do irregular film photo meets at various places; there have been a couple at Bristol IIRC. We just fell out of the habit, what with the dreaded lurgy etc. A few of us just had a fabulous day out in Castleton.

I think there are a few folk who would like to revive the tradition. There are plenty of places down your way that could make excellent photowalk locations, I dunno, Brixham, Dartmouth, even Exeter maybe, Lyme Regis perhaps. The issue would be finding someone to coordinate the call and have at least some idea of how to proceed. From my experience, these walks are not quite "guided", but rather group decisions on where and how to go. Helps to have someone with a bit of local knowledge though. I've found it's quite interesting to be prompted to do different things on these walks, though in the end I chickened out of trying @Harlequin565 's 6x17 camera, after seeing @sirch struggle a bit with it (TBF the location wasn't really the best for a panoramic vista, but I'm looking forward to seeing whether any of Chris's 4 frames came out!).

I'll be in Runcorn I hope. Mrs H isn't doing the best right now but it/s 75/25 in favour so I'm hopeful. My MP should be back from repair tomorrow and it would be good to put some film through it on the day.

This is just a reminder (mainly for myself) of how it will work... After reading it I'm not entirely confident in the IT side of things but I'm sure it'll be ok :) It looks like we'll get a discount code on the day for the free dev & scan.

Key details for attendees

A reminder of what your day is going to look like:

  • Meet at the starting point of the walk, and at the agreed time - all details here
  • Make sure you've brought snacks, water, appropriate footwear, an empty 35mm film camera and spare batteries if your camera needs them
  • Your photowalk leader will give you a free roll of Kodak Gold 35mm to load into your camera for the walk
  • Enjoy the walk! Chat to your fellow attendees, share tips and tricks, and have a wonderful time. Please pay attention to any health and safety guidance from your photowalk leader as needed
  • At the end of the photowalk make sure you've finished your roll of Kodak Gold film*
  • Place an order for FREE development and scanning on your phone - making sure you've selected C-41, Standard Scans, Correct and Rotate package. Decide whether you want your negatives sent back to your home address (small postal charge) or not.
  • Give the roll of Gold to your photowalk leader, who will collect them all and send them to our lab for processing
  • Receive your scans within the following week (exact timings depend on the volumes the lab gets over the weekend)
After you're received your scans from the day then you'll have the opportunity to submit your best photos into a Photowalk-specific competition to WIN a Pentax 17 camera and a lot of Kodak film goodies! Details on how to enter will be released after the walk.

Because it's Kodak Gold you can also (separately) enter our Summer Competition - but of course no obligation on either

Enjoy!

*If for whatever reason you're unable to finish your roll of film on the day then make sure you've collected the discount code from the Leader before you leave - it will be valid until Sunday night - you will still be able to enter the competition but not that turnaround might take a bit longer as it'll have to be managed separately.

Blackpool one looks quite good as Stanley park seems to be near a lot of interesting things. Only issue is where to park as all the car parks seem to be at the seafront.

Looks like it has a car park and there is free street parking in surrounding streets but google shows a few with permit parking on the road.

I dare you to turn up with the Minox looking confused :)
Nah, turn up with the Minox then take the Kodak "free" film and slice it up to 6 x 50cm 9.2mm strips. See how confused AW are when that comes through the post for dev'ing :)

Edit: Lo-fi have a specific film only darkroom so I can even load the strips into the Minox cassettes!

Found an empty camera! Decided on Blackpool as well as it's not somewhere I've been to in ages.

I'm going to the Blackpool one. I'll make sure to say hello.

I'll be the bespectacled bald bloke with an Olympus OM SLR. In case there are multiple bald blokes, I'll also be using a Yorkshire accent. :)

I'll be the one with the tiny nikon compact and the overly large rucksack with too much spare stuff 'just in case' :) I shall probably be grumbling about the weather in a Midlands fashion...

I've just been out in the garden and used up a roll of HP5 on my dog so that my F5 is empty for tomorrow. It's been ages since I used a 35mm camera (mostly shoot MF & LF now) - I forgot there was a film in it. I needed the practice anyway.

Heh, I just got my camera back from repair yesterday and immediately stuffed a roll of HP5 in it to test it. Then realised it needed to be empty for tomorrow... So I was doing the same only with a cat.

If you'd given more notice I'd have happily loaned you a point & shoot. Next time...
Thanks for that! I got late in noticing this post. Only read it yesterday evening.

That said I did look around for a Nikon film camera and spotted this. Am considering getting it.

Sorry to hear that @Harlequin565 .

The weather in Leicester was mainly sunny. The organisers (Leicester Lo-fi) were spot on. Around 20 attendees and everyone was friendly. I've only visited Leicester occasionally so the walk route was all new to me.

I'm not used to getting through 36 exposures in a few hours. Motivation was to get it used so the organisers could send the film back. I could have taken my time and posted the film myself but I would have to pay for postage. Negs back isn't included in the walk price so I've paid £3 for that.

All in all a great afternoon out.

Weather in Blackpool was a definite 3/10. Turned out ok in spite of it. Will definitely do another photo walk if there's another somewhere I don't really know well.

Yeah, the weather was pants. It did stop raining for a reasonable amount of time, thankfully, but it had kicked in again properly when I had the 30-minute walk back to where I was parked. I'm not sure I've made my best work. :(

Nice to meet you today though Suz. :)

Wow! I'm knackered. :pint:

I've just got home, my arms are shot (manual wheelchair), the dog just wants to go to sleep and I don't think either of us can be bothered to eat - no energy left for chewing. Beer it is then.

I wish I'd taken the F3 and a nifty fifty instead of the F5 and big lenses though - I will next time.

Sorry to hear some of you had rain - it was the opposite here with strong sunshine all day. I'm going to be pinker than a pink thing tomorrow that's for sure - I never even took a hat for my bald head.

We all made some new friends and will probably be repeating it sometime soon in the future.

Strangely, no one asked me all day why I wasn't wearing shoes - most unusual . . .

The weather was kind to the Eastbourne walk, and despite four people not showing up at the start, the remaining nine of us had an enjoyable three hours capturing images along the seafront, interspersed with cakes, coffees, ice creams and good conversations! The ordering process at the end of the walk was a little nightmarish as many people found the website / app on their phones difficult to negotiate. All films posted off now to AW, so fingers tightly crossed!!
