Taken during last week's Cardigan Bay dolphin trip. The formations were so striking I thought they were worthy of a photo. I've spent a fair bit of time trying to find out what period they are from. I didn't realise how complicated geology is.. It seems they are from the Ordovician and Silurian period....limestone and shale rock The kind you'd see on the Devon coastline. That's putting them at 450 million years old. In another reference they are decribed as 'Lias' which is late Triassic/e early Jurassic...so 195-200million years old .If anyone can clarify it would be appreciated. They lie close to New Quay going south on the boat for 20 minutes..maybe at Nanternis. Beyond them was the fisherman.I wouldn't feel safe standing there..52.Fisherman.jpg
