Ancient on-camera flash... for bulbs

I've just found this ancient flash unit, presumably bought for my first SLR. Made by National, it's in a neat pouch; the reflector is segmented and assembles into shape by spinning segments round and joining the first to the last. Trigger cable and place to plug in the flash bulbs!

Bit nostalgic really, but I'm assuming this is pretty much useless to anyone these days...
