Yes
I'm going to a wedding as a guest in the next couple of weeks and I want to take my camera. Bride tells me that so long as there's no flash photography through the service, that's fine. "no bother" says I.

Anyway, it's a given that I'll take my 50mm f1.8

Do I take another too?

I have the kit lens (18-70mm), I have a 70-300 and a 24-200 as well as another 50mm (but that's a macro and slower than the other one).

The pictures will be just for me and I have no intention of stepping on the pro's toes (not that I could anyway.....though I suppose I could run em over? :suspect:)

I don't want to take more than 1 spare lens and in typical MM fashion, I may consider converting a handbag to a camera bag for the occasion....

I suppose that if my hands weren't naff, I'd just take a point & shoot, but I can't use them now and tbh...I'm more comfortable (physically and creatively) using my DSLR
Any thoughts would be appriciated.

Nattelie, if it's for the service I'd take the 50mm. It's a faster lens than the rest and if it's dark in church it's the one that will give you the best shutter speeds. If you can get close to the b&g then you'll get some reasonable frame fillers and if you're at the back you'll be able to get some expansive images of the venue.

I would suggest that anything smaller than F4 will be too slow in church and will mean pushing the ISO further than is ideal for the camera itself.

As long as you don't mind carrying the extra weight I'd definitely carry an extra lens with you (probably the kit lens if you have a sharp copy). Inside the church isn't the only chance you'll get to take photos & you may find yourself missing a wider angle option for groups, etc.

I don't think you'll be even slightly limited by the 50mm (I pretty much only used primes for my wedding photography) but it may just give you a bit more versatility, I'd rather carry the extra weight & get the shot than want the shot but not have any means to get it.

Good luck
