I've just installed Android on my HTC HD2 which normally runs WM. I have to boot into windows ans then boot Android from there. I must admit I am quite impressed with the OS but really to get the most from it I need to flash the ROM with Android which will mean windows is gone forever. Also, if I get it wrong that could be the end of my phone.

What does everyone think, Android or stick with WM? Am I just impressed with Android because it's a new toy or is it genuinely better?
 
I have had various version of window operating services on mobiles over the years and used nokia software and always sworn by it.

I upgrade to a htc desire on the android and as it stands after the past few months of using it i wont be returning back unless they make a serious mess of things.

Just my personal opinion but android all the way
 
I have 2 phones, a HTC HD mini on Woedoze Mobile and a Motorola Milestone on Android.

For me Android wins hands down. Zillions of free apps, and hugely faster than the HTC on Windowz.
 
Definitely Android. No doubt about it. I have a work HTC after having a windows based phone. Android for sure.
 
Just don't get hung up just on HTC androids, Samsung do some great phones too.

I have a Motorola just bacause it's built like a brick outhouse which is good for clumsy me :D
 
I've found the Samsung galaxy S to be pretty awesome.

I have used WM and Android and prefer Android.
 
I've done a NAND Android flash on my HD2, much nicer than the custom windows ROMs I was using before :)

How did flashing the ROM go? From what I understand I have to flash HSPL3 first, then a suitable radio ROM, then I can flash the NAND ROM. Does that sound about right or did you go another way?

How do you find the performance of Android on the HD2 ?

I'm thinking of getting an HD2 and running Android on it but I'm not sure of how it performs having seen a couple of negative comments on the web.
 
Just a heads up, over on XDA forums they've flashed HTC Android phones with a Win7 mobile rom so all would not be lost if you did make the leap I think.

That said, Android would be my choice, there are some very talented devs out there doing their stuff and it's all legal as it's open source.
 
Put a NAND Android Gingerbread install on my HD2 last night and it's running very smoothly and quickly. Just got to work out how to use it now. :D

So much better than the Windows Mobile 7 it had on it when it arrived.
 
I haven't owned any windows based phones but I can definately say Android is better than Symbian. I really hate Symbian with a passion.

Apple IOS I don't mind but the fact it is a closed network (usually) then I find it too restricting. The key moment for android is when someone develops a virus and then how it is handled.
 
I've gone from iPhone to HTC Desire to HTC HD7.

Thoughts :

iOS = Slick, loads of good apps, but a bit restrictive sometimes and interface is looking a bit too simplistic these days (notifications in particular).

Android = Powerful, but flaky. User interface is clumsy, battery life rubbish, too much tinkering and messing about required to get it to work nicely. Some good apps but mostly unstable, ugly garbage.

Windows Phone 7 = Most stable. Slickest interface. App selection limited, but the quality of most used ones is very good. Games and Xbox Live integration are fantastic. Downside is Bing maps, which frankly suck here in Hong Kong....may be better in Europe/US, but there are some good 3rd party map apps.

I wouldn't touch WinMo with a ten-foot pole, but WinPho7 is actually very, very good. One thing that has impressed me about the HD7 as well is the sound quality when playing music, it's top notch, much better than my iDevices.
