I am looking to purchase a angle finder to fit my Canon 5D, does the Canon one do anything different to any of the cheap ones that I could get ?
Thanks.

The Canon angle finder C is better made (metal glass) than the cheaper ones you can find on ebay (plastic), but does basically the same job including having a maganification factor available if required.

The Canon angle finder B is a 1x only angle finder and can only be bought S/H now but is still made from metal and glass. Can usually be bought for about £25-30 including postage.

They all do a similar job, it depends on how much you value quality really.

I doubt that it does anything any differently, but it will probably feel "better". I've got both the Canon B and C angle finders and they can be useful at times, and they certainly help when you want a low angle.

I guess we're really talking about build quality / performance versus cost here? Many people are quite happy with a cheaper version. After all it's not something that you're using all the time, so if it doesn't feel so substantial so what? Others will pay a bit more for what they consider a better made product. I'm not saying any one is right here, just that we can see it differently.

If you're likely to make a lot of use of it then personally I'd go the Canon, even though the prices are ridiculous nowadays. If it's intermittent use then not to consider the cheaper alternatives would be silly.

cheers

Thanks very much for your replies. I think I will be looking for a secondhand Canon one then. I like to buy the right one first time.

If the Canon offering has multiple magnifications, is it parfocal? The cheap ones tend to require refocusing the anglefinder when you change mag.
