Sorry for yet another filter question, new to this so still a bit confused. On some advice I was thinking along the lines of getting a Lee foundation kit to start with & a couple of Hitech 100mm ND grads 0.6 & 0.9 , & a full ND 0.9 or 1.2over time (not sure which will be more usefull for landscapes) do I need a lens hood aswell for this lot?, I noticed the Hitech holder comes with a 105mm thread for a hood, so is it better/cheeper to get this holder? or can I fit other hoods to the Lee holder, all a bit of a minefield out there.

Lee do a nice bellows lens hood with a couple of filter slots built in. That's the way I would do it (but I'm not a big filter fan). If you want a strong ND filter, screw-in is best, to prevent light leaks.

Reviving this thread a bit with my contribution and my own questions. I have the Lee foundation kit with the Hitech 0.3+0.6+0.9 GND filters (soft). The 0.3 is useless but buying the kit of three is cheaper. I am very satisfied with the quality of the holder and the filters.

I also use a polariser but it is not practical because it is screwed on the lens with the lee holder on top so the whole lot turns.
I would like to know if it is worth while to get the 105mm adapter and circular polariser (b+w probably). Does anyone have any experience with this ? And is there a lens cap to protect the filter because I can't see myself unscrewing and screwing the filter 30 times in the day.

As for a hood, I was looking into that as well but I read it doesn't fit on top of the polariser. That means you have to get the hood+polariser+100mm slots in one piece (I saw it on b&h in standard and in wide). I have a full frame so I was wondering if the standard can be used with a 24mm without vignetting by flattening the hood a bit. The wide is very expensive!

Feel free to ask anything about the foundation kit I have, I'm happy to share.

Nicolas.

The Lee foundation kit and Hitech ND Grads are the way to go,
great results, havent used the ND filter but it would help on really bright sunny days
