Another HDD question

1. What make is it

2. Does it come with a guarantee

I picked up a Maxtor 1tb USB hard disk last year. I know about hard disks being far from infallible, but it's a well-known make, plus it came with a 3 year guarantee, so I thought it was worth a punt. Cost around £100.

Heed the standard advice about hard disks, i.e. always have a backup. I keep all my photos on the Maxtor to make them easy to access, but I have them all backed up to to CD-R.

according to the ad its got a 3 year warranty
 
thats the thing i dont know what make it is etc.... its not out till thursday, its got a 3 year warrenty

talking about maxtor ive just seen Maxtor Basics 500GB Hard Disk Drive for £50 is a hard disk drive the same as a portable hard drive ???

saw that toshiba one but really i would want a small one in size not memory
 
just had a quick google cos i'm looking for something similar myself and it doesn't look all that cheap , theres a Toshiba one on Amazon same spec , less money , in fact theres plenty about for similar money

the 3 yr waranty sounds good though

Depends on whether it needs an external power supply (like my Maxtor) or whether it draws its power from your PC via the USB connection, which would make it truly portable.

well it says

This Maxtor Basics hard disk drive provides you with a 500GB storage capacity. It has a 7200 RPM speed with a USB 2.0 interface. USB cable is included.

to me i think that means its powered by the usb , no mention of powersuply
 
Best place to get hdd is ebuyer.
Also anything with 3 yrs is good.
Lastly, dont expect it not to break-down for 3 yrs. All you get is when it's broken they'll replace it.....so make sure you back things up

That Aldi one will be 'full' size, they don't make 1 terabyte drives in 2.5" yet ;).
 
Aldi are very good with warranty stuff, no probs in exchanging!
 
One small thing that no-one seems to have noticed yet.

This drive states External SATA as the connector, not USB

I think it is unlikely you have an external SATA connector on your computer

well that ends that one then lol told you i dont really have a clue what SATA etc.... is

going to give the aldi one a miss i think
 
Have a look in Staples if there's one near by. I bought a lacie drive there a while back and found they were really reasonable.
 
just bought a WD Elements 1TB desktop hardrive for currys :) in the process of copying files, the desktop ones are actually quiet small lol i thought they would be about the size of a nintendo wii
