Another Lens Query

Just to remind everyone I am a complete beginer to DSLRs.
Got one of these Macro lens Cheap off Ebay, I actually forgot I bought it untill it came today. same as this, but Nikon fit. http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-28-80mm-F3-5-5-6-Aspherical-Macro-Pentax-AF/dp/B0000501TV
Works OK on my D7000, seems to get really close up in the Macro mode.

Anyone own or had any experience with this lens? What settings should I be on for close up macro shots ect???

A small aperture and the camera on a tripod so that it doesn't move during the resultant (slow) shutterspeed. Aperture priority or manual exposure mode.
