So I went to purchase carts for my HP D5100 on Saturday. OMFGG !! I could buy a new printer for that sort of money, admittedly not a very good one.

Then I started looking at what was on offer (always a bad move I know).

'm looking for a wireless printer capable of decent reproductions of my photo's. Largest print size would be A4.

I don't need one with a scanner/shredder/fax/photocopier/teasmade/dog groomer/alarm clock/games console built in either :bang:

All I want is a chuffin printer whose replacement cartridges don't cost the earth

Am I dreaming?

Excuse my ignorance but no, I did just google CIS but I can't see how the HM Revenue and Customs Construction Industry Scheme is going to help me find a printer !!:help:
Continuous ink system sounds better no!?

If you go down this route, think Epson, no HP imo.

I really, really, really, really, really, really didn't want an all in one printer.

I have to admit I just bought a Canon Pixma MP560 all in one printer.

It's lovely....

I've found a use for the scanner too!

Print head alignment.

The printer runs off an alignment sheet, and then you scan that sheet, and the printer automatically aligns the print heads.

Well I was impressed!

Freakin' awesome print quality too on Canon paper - the profiles supplied in the driver setup are spot on!

WiFi built in too - everything up to and including 2.4ghz 'n'.

Did I mention the freakin' awesome print quality? OK, you will get better, but at just over the £100* quid mark, it thrashes both my Epson R300 and my Canon S900 silly (OO-err!).

i dunno... you try and help someone and they throw it back in your face...

Robert: i agree, the canon printers are pretty ace. my HP AiO does that fancy scanning alignment thing as well - pretty nifty :D

I'm sure I read a review where the all in one Canon (MP620?) gave better results than the IP4600. Can't find it now though.

Thanks for all the replies, it's been an interesting read (and sometimes funny)

I came sooooo close to purchasing a canon but in the end was made a deal I couldn't refuse on an Epsom PX710W.
Ok so it's a little larger than the Canon and it's as black as ol' nicks waistcoat but I have to say, the image quality so far is impressive, the wireless functionality is a godsend, the replacement carts are reasonably priced as is the epsom photo paper. All I have to do now is take pictures worthy of printing and displaying ;)

If you are going down the cis route then epsom appear to be the easiest to get a cis system for, I am trying to get a cis system for my canon 9500pro and there are none available, which is a shame cause it's the best printer I have ever owned but 10 carts can add up :(

If you own a HP5100 I would look at a refillable cartridge system. Cost of £10 for the cartridges and another £10 for a set of inks. Keeps it portable and you can refill the cartridges in a matter of 5 minutes. I use just this on my HP6280 and it is far less messing than a CIS.
