Edit My Images
Yes
Been thinking about this recently and decided on a new redesign. I'm planning on writing a series of articles on how to achieve some things that I've added to the site so that it might help others.

Would like some feedback on this, likes and dislikes etc. I've tested it on a variety of browers and used BrowserLab for a helping hand. I do however need to create a portfolio section specific to IE as I've got a bug at the moment that I'm working around...

Cheers!

I should mention that I'm using Wordpress for this and it's entirely my own theme too.

Fixed some more bugs, the Portfolio should be showing in IE now. No feedback?

I'm probably flicking to fast between images but a more noticable Loading logo would be good.

A small pragraph describing what is going on in each of the photos would be nice.

The current projects section of your webiste doesn't seem to do anything. THey definetly need abit more exsplnation

Other than that its a nice website and I like it.

Hope that helps

Stuart

If anyone is using IE I'd be most greatful for a screen shot of the home page to see if the portfolio slideshow is working for you. I've got Adobe Browserlab for testing but it's not giving me reliable results.

Thanks mate! Yeah, I'm getting myself a branding job done soon which will replace what is in the top left corner. The projects I've left inactive for now until I've got more information for 'em. I put them there to make people think I'm busy ha ha. I'll get some more descriptive text put in also, it's a bit image heavy at the moment. Thanks for taking the time to have a wee look.

Portfolio link does not bring you far enough down to see the whole portfolio on my 1280 x 800 screen.

The dark grey on black text is hard to read on my computer, I actually missed that you had more than one section to your portfolio for a start because of this.

The I am a photographer line just seems out of place to me. The other thing is having to scroll up or down to get back to menus when in the blog, projects or portfolio pieces of the site.

It is an almost there to me if i am honest. Not quite functional enough to be a great site just yet. (all IMHO of course)

My suggestion would be

Replace text header with a small automatic slideshow of your best work, add an about me link to the nav bar, and have that as the second section of the page

Keep your portfolio as the next section but make the portfolio sections stand out more by lighter text (maybe white with the light blue on rollover?)

Lastly I would add a home button in each section to allow the user to easily return to the nav bar at the top of the page.

Really clean though, like the minimal thing you have going on.

Thanks for the feedback Carl. All very valid and will take on board everything you've suggested.

The italics in the header (documentary and Scotland) are a bit confusing, why do you need them? Also seems to a bit slow in loading although that could be my connection :(

Really like the way the site works, very effective.

Thanks for the feedback Dod.

Was trying to look a bit swanky with the italics. Might in actual fact look a bit pretentious now that you mention it. I'll probably remove those. I've still to optimise the images. There are some large file sizes in there that I need to cut down, and then start on the caching to try and speed things up.

I've been working on this for quite some time, using Wordpress, BlueprintCSS, jQuery, jQuery UI and some custom Javascript to try and get it all working. Fairly happy with the way it's turning out so far.

you still using EE?

I've not been using it for this. I actually only really use it when building CMS managed flash sites because the XML tempting engine is so powerful it makes building fast accessible flash sites a lot easier. For this site I've been using Wordpress.

Are you using EE for anything at the moment?

Thanks. The portfolio section isn't showing. IE seems to have real problems with jQuery and large amounts of content. Might have to code a custom part just for IE. Those screens were IE right? I hate that browser. But it's a problem than needs fixed.

Thanks for going to the trouble of taking and posting those screens for me.

I'm using IE9 just now, seems ok.

Well I've managed to get down to the route cause of the bug in IE 7 and 8. For future reference IE 7 and 8 don't prioritize what files are loaded in what order. As a result it was attempting to render my slideshow before all the content for it had finished loading causing a js error. By using dom ready to check that everything is loaded you can then begin to apply js code and that solved the issue.

You have KJ Documentary Photographer in the header and then the first line is 'I'm a Documentary Photographer', do we need it repeated?

Also, I think the 'Based in Scotland I...........take me' should have the same green font colour as the 'portfolio' and 'current projects'
