Hi all,

I really want to make a go of my photography next year so I want a new lens that fits my needs a little more. At the minute I only have the standard 18-55mm but that isn't real ideal for for photography at the BTCC and other similar events which is when I will be using it the most.

I've been looking, and these two lenses are what I've found;

Firstly, could someone confirm if these lenses are compatible with my Nikon D3000?
Secondly, does anyone have any experience with either of these lenses and could give me their opinion?
Thirdly, if anyone could recommend anything else that is better than feel free to but I unfortunately don't have very much of a budget at the moment (photography is an expensive hobby!)so therefore I want to spend about £200 max

Have look at nikon 70-300 vr, they usually come in a little above your budget of £220-250 second hand but well worth the extra over those sigmas. One recently sold in the classifieds for £230. One of nikons absolute gems, especially at the price it can be had for second hand. I really miss mine when I sold it on, a great lightweight lens.

Edit: just noticed you can't access the classifieds yet. My advice would be to wait until you can and look to pick one up from there.

Sorry, but links are identical. Both points to the Sigma 70-300 macro...

Your lenses must have built-in focusmotor. Isn't the name USM for Sigmas? Not sure if that one is compatible with your D3100...
 
It's HSM for Sigma, and I'm not sure the linked lenses have that.
 
That Nikon has a motor so will work - any Nikon lens with AF-S means it has a built in motor.
