If they are not pinned to the taskbar I usually run programs by clicking start and typing the first 2 or 3 letters of the program name. So if I want to run word it's start type wo and top of the list is microsoft word.
I don't have any shortcuts or icons on the desktop (by choice)

Everything still works like that except Lightroom. type in Lig and I get offered daylight savings time options. If i click on All Programs there is no Abobe folder.

I found the Lightroom folder in program files and made a shortcut to the program which I then pinned to the start menu. Lightroom works fine. thinking back this may have coincided with installing the Lightroom 3 beta.

Just wondering if there is any way to get it to see the adobe stuff from the start menu search again?

Robert - I am on a mac so cant test but maybe try 'ado'be lightroom?

No :)

It works fine. It's just curiosity really as to why the start menu no longer sees it.

I have a shortcut i made and Lightroom works fine. Just can't work out why the start search sees nothing adobe. edit actually it doen't see my new shortcut either in search

Seems to be Adobe anything. no way to launch reader from start menu either.

reader doesnt show for me either, nor lightroom, but the acrobat pro trial does..weird

Not just progs - will include folders etc too? Did you do an upgrade from previous to W7?
Neil may have hit nail with indexing so give that a whirl first.

This was a clean install and it used to work as expected then just stopped one day.

Rob - done some more reading and there does seem to be an issue with the number of items in the start bar that could be causing an issue. Try the above (stick a couple into a new folder) and see if your others start to appear.

(If the indexing does not solve).

Could be a while for the indexing :)

I always used to tidy my start menu like that anyway. not bothered since Vista and having the search. I'm assuming the indexing will just carry on in the background until completed. Seems a low priority task so it looks like a day or so. was only on 6000 last time I looked which is about 1%. No rush in any case.

Have you installed anything that could have changed registry settings?

Not really. Lightroom 3 beta is the only suspect. I have installed a trial version of Sony Vegas after the problem started and that appears in the start search fine and is listed under all programs. just doesn't want to see anything Adobe.

Fixed :)

Wish I knew which suggestion it was but having done both it is working again. Tidied the all users start menu so mine still looked the same, killed explorer in task manager.... and lost my task bar. So ctrl-alt-del logged off and logged back on..... and it works. typing Li gets me lightroom. There is still no Adobe group in all programs but that may come back when the indexing get round to it.

Thanks :)

 Again these puters have a mind of their own! You did remember to feed it Jaffa Cakes?

Glad it is all sorted matey

hmm actually it's only finding the shortcut I created now. Maybe I spoke too soon. Still it's an improvement
