Yes
I've read some stuff recently about lockups with the 20D.

I have had mine since march and not seen a problem - until this week.

Thursday I was messing with an IR filter and trying different timings to see what I could get out of it. I turned on long exposure noise reduction and took a few shots. Then took another and whilst waiting for the NR cyle to complete after the shot I pressed the shot setting buttons - and the camera went to err99. Removed and replaced battery and all was OK.

Today at Duxford with a battery which was getting pretty low it just froze. Power off did nothing (as for err99 problem also). New battery and all was well again.

Can't say I'm worried by this yet - probably just coincidence. Just wondering what the average experience is for lockups.

Mines locked up a couple of times, just stopped working. That's been both with and without the battery grip
The only common factor in my case, as far as I could see, was humidity.

I had the Error 99 message with my first 20D which just stopped reading any CF card. It was replaced under warranty and I haven't had any lock-ups at all with it's replacement.

I have a 350. I know it's not the same camera, granted, but I haven't had one lockup at all, random or otherwise.

Nice to know I'm not alone. The 100-400 with the IS on seems to eat batteries. I was on my 3rd when I left.

20D user here and no lockups apart from one attributed to a microdrive not the 20D.

I've had a 20d since it came out and to date i've not had a single problem with it, other than it showing up my lack of talent behind the lens.

article in DC mag from july mentioned a pproblem with Lexar cards and canon cameras where certain situations would cause the camera to lock up. Don't know if this applies to any of you and I can't remember the exact details. But just a thought.......

im certain my lockups are due to the fact its on the latest firmware, have had a couple error 99 since i got the battery grip but very few, the other lockups only started since i put the 2.02 firmware in, now trying desperately to find the original firmware to test my theory lol

Mines still on the original firmware, I'm a fan of not fixing something thats not broken.

The firmware updates haven't addressed a fault condition I was likely to come across

Ditto.

I was wondering if an update was going to help.

My card is a Kingston Elite Pro 2Gb. No reason to suspect it. Both occaisions mine locked up I could see a possible reason (pressing buttons whilst it was processing / low battery+ IS lens).

The camera is a specialised computer and 2 crashes in 6+ minths is not bad compared to laptops I've used etc. Reboot fixes most things ;)

How true that is!
