Interested to hear about the lenses auto focus ability in low light?

I'm not entirely sure but I think I'm right when I say it's the camera's auto focus system not the lens that has trouble in low light and low contrast conditions.. The lens just contains a motor that does what it's told!

The lens is slower to focus than a lot of other lenses as it has a front element focussing system and it is a heavy lump of glass at the front. However I would think at f1.2 the lens stands a much better chance than say an f4 lens..

I would love to see a canon 85mm f1.2 mk3 with rear focus element!

No in fairness, I'd rather get the shot at f1.2 with a decent shutter speed than run the risk with an f2.8 or f4 lens. It's not fast in comparison to other lenses, but I dont have this lens for faster speed sports for example.

I'm sure that I've read lens review that critisise the low light performance... of the lens... difficult to understand though it may be. Unless someone knows better or if it's true, why it's true
