Yes
...will let me have a look/handle a D200 one evening

planning to upgrade from D40 -- but I gather the D200 is heavier

830 gram against 475 - almost 75% more .....

thanks

I'm in the same boat John, looking at upgrading my D40 to a D200 :)

The D200 is indeed a heavier camera but more of a pro camera compared to a D40 .......the pros outweigh the cons, this will be my second D200 and they are rather good for the money

I've got a Fuji S5 Pro, John which is to all intents and purposes the same camera. You're welcome to have a shot of it with/without a grip on it to see how you get on

yes, read your thread - thought you had made the BIG decision already ?

I'm following about 10 bids on eBay and prices do vary
one is shutter count 1757 from a seller with only 4 feedbacks
why sell a D90 after a few months --------too good to be true ? or not?

yeah you talked me into it

why did you sell the 1st....

great thanks can i put you "on hold" for a D200?.......

When I finally decided to buy my own camera it was a toss-up between the Fuji S and the D200; both handle great, both have good menu systems and both are built like tanks, ideal for outdoor use. The D200 swung it for me because of the faster motordrive and at the time, i could get a better deal (it was about £150 cheaper with lens). Great camera. I miss mine a lot, even though my D2X is a good piece of kit.

Don't worry about the weight, that's not an issue when you're actually using one (unless you fit a grip, then it does start to weigh more and feel big) because it's a very good camera to use for long periods. I used a 30D before that and the D200 (at the time) knocked the socks off any mid-range Canon in every respect.

AF is super-quick, options are endless and the IQ is fantastic, especially when combined with a good bit of glass.

I sold mine, with grip and 18-70mm for just over £500 a few months ago, so there are bargains to be had. There have been quite a few going in the classified section on here lately - low-mileage ones that seem to have been well loved.

My D200 and grip has now arrived and I can honestly say............I have missed this camera, now its a toss up between pxing it for a D2X or saving a little more and keeping it.........or even me buying the D2X and giving this to Eileen.

You've had it for, what, 10 minutes? :cuckoo:

The D200 is a great camera. You will be pleased when you get one

They do come up on here at a rate of 1 a week if you can wait and its much safer buying here, I wont touch ebay now with a barge pole

I intend to keep my 55-200 AF-S VR....and sell the D40 with its 18-55 GII
and replace that with a 18-55 G VR for the new D200

(yes I'd like THE Nikon 2.8 lenses but *needs must* and those 2 get good enough reviews for me)

yes....I've been browsing eBay for a good used 18-55VR and there's too many stock photos for addresses in dodgy parts of London - so will buy new:)

Technically can you comment....?
I want to take "occasional" bird shots in the garden and reckon 300mm is ok
from what I read - Nikon say turn OFF the VR on a tripod anyway so ............
looking for little outlay - would...
a 70-300mm AF G suit the bill.....£85 new from OneSDigital
or for a bit of fun to pass the time, look for an older
75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF..."here"
which uncle Ken reckons is better than the cheaper, lighter 70-300 AF-D
review "here"........on a D200

my reading - since 9am today ! sad but true...indicates they all work on the D200

thanks

Get a D70, i upgraded from a D40 to that even though its a much older camera, its awesome, i love it! Still chunky but not as heavy - plus wayyy cheaper!

thanks .... another 12 hours of surfing D70 info then....

Popped into Merchant City Cameras in Parnie St and they have a rather nice D2H for £450, might be worth a look, I'm actually quite tempted by it myself :naughty:

4.1 megapixels (effective).........

Don't be put off by the pixel count, the image quality is far superior to a lot of much more err.... "pixled" cameras and as Pat says the build quality is top notch. Remember it was a multi thousand pound camera when new....

A bit O/T but who is the girl that works in Merchant City Cameras?

She's got great banter. It's so refreshing going in there after a trip to the hellfest that is Jessops.

Yeah, she has

They're a nice bunch in there, well worth a trip in for anyone looking for camera gear in the Glasgow area, they have a good selection of film stuff at decent prices plus a range of new Nikon, Canon etc. They struggle a bit pricewise against Jessops, but a lot of the stuff isn't that much more so it's better to support a local company if possible

I would support them as I thought I wanted a D2H until they let me take some photos with it and I changed my mind! Its good that they will let you test the equiment and make an informated choice. and the don't rush you.

Stuart

You can have a shot of my D70 too if you want .....If it was me I'd wait for a D200 though, a D70 isn't really much of a step up from the D40

Graham...any chance of a get-together next week to see/feel the Fuji....

any time/any day except Tuesday to suit you, as I can work in Glasgow that day

PM your address too !

John
