I dont really know anything about sony, but a 300mm lens will do with some hefty cropping. Things start getting expensive after that.

I normally use a 300mm with 1.4TC (420mm) and still have to crop 1:1 to get a reasonable sized image on the screen which gives me about a 3'' x2'' print out whereas I want an A4 print at least!!

I reckon you could get decent moon shots with a sub £300 astro scope - Maksutov scopes tend to be more expensive, have a look at a Newtonian relector scope you shoudl be able to get one well within budget. You need a T-piece to attach the camera to the scope. For Moon shots a refractor is probably your best option and you'll find loads available second hand... If you look at makes such as Meade, Sky Watcher and Celestron you won't go too far wrong. For Moon shots I wouldn't worry too much about a tracked mount as you certainly won't need long exposures. Most telescopes will mount on a standard tripod.
