well im due for a small bonus at christmas, probally around the £400 mark and im looking to get my first dslr ( well its gonna be my first camera ever lol )

my question is

which one of these would be better

i know it has all the info but at the moment i dont have a clue as to what it means although i am getting there.

also the other question is will it last, i know i will have to upgrade lenses ect but will it still give good quality pictures
i would really like to do some macro and some wild life

i did ask in a camera shop but the lad looked like he was on work experience from school and dont think he really knew what he was on about

any help willl be really appreciated

Sorry to hear your shop experience was rather negative but I'm going to send you back ;) You can only decide the best camera by how it feels to you in your hands. My camera is great for me but some blokes would feel like it was a toy in their hands :)

What you want to photograph will be the major influence in the lens decisions. Nothing wrong with kit lens as part of the learning process imo

well i did try holding the cameras and they both seem fine , and as comfy as the other

i was just wandering what one has the best spec as it will have to last me for a while

Both those are much of a muchness really. Both entry level, basic features. There isnt really much to distguinish the two. It all comes down to how they feel in the hand.
Some peope dont like the way a Canon handles, some dont like Nikon. You really need to try them both out. You say you have done this, so basicly if you arent drawn towards one or the other, toss a coin.

thanks mate

as i said above i know lenses are more important but with a decent lens will either of these still give good shots,

ive tried to search for some but cant find anything
 
Any DSLR from the last 10 years will give good shots when used correctly.
Of course some are better at different things than others, but at this base level, they are all pretty much equal. The lens you stick on the front will have a bigger bearing on image quality than the actual camera.

as i said i liked the feel of either , and ive just found some sample pics on the net of both cameras and i personally thought the nikon looked better so im going with the nikon

yeah that is wishful thinking lol

will just be glad to finally get a camera and start taken pictures

what is the dark side?
 
Nikon.. Well, the Canon people think so anyhow.
 
also i know that mp isnt so important but what are they for, im guessing its for enlarging a picture, if so what size pic could you enlarge to with a 10mp and a 14 mp without loosing quality

Either one should be able to print a decent size...(way above A4)

One useful thing with a larger MP count is you can crop the picture a little more and still keep the detail.

This can be very useful...
 
Well my old 6MP camera printed an A2 print without any issue, so a 10-14MP will print way above that without issue. As mentioned, a higher MP count can meant you can crop an image if you ahve to and still have a good size print from it.
