Any idea what caused this?

I went out this morning with my new Tokina 11-16 and on reviewing them I
noticed the (near) end of this branch was OOF.

The leaves to the left, right and below appear far sharper than the end of the branch.

Just wondering...

It's not on the same plane though, is it? Not on the plane of DoF which always runs parallel to the lens which is tilted down. The branch is higher, and closer to the lens.

Ah, now I get it. I need to think in 3D as opposed to 2D.

Focal plane, and could be tilted left or right and well as vertical, especially notice with macro and wide angle shots
