Hi folks,

I will be taking my D7k in for warranty repairs just looking to see if anyone has had this problem on their camera body before...

The images it produces are soft!

It is not a lens problem and I can see dust particles in the viewfinder.

I have tested all lenses at different apertures and speeds. Base ISO, good lighting and even turns VR on & off to see if it could be that.

I can confirm is is 100% definitely NOT a lens issue.

Anyone had any similar issues???

As above, and how are you viewing them?

Does it happen if you focus using live view?

Oh yeah...it started to do this after my ingenious decision to blow dust out of my camera mirror...

Hi Phil, I hope you were not using a high pressure aerosol type blower? They can damage and / or dislodge the focus screen resulting in what you describe.

Maybe you've dislodged the piggy-back AF mirror, or blown crud over the AF sensor in the bottom of the mirror box.

Hmmm...based on the feedback I think it could be sensor issues...I tried focusing manually (and got it right in live view) and still result in a soft image.

Ok I'll definitely be taking it to have it looked at on Monday. Its still under warranty anyway so I'll post the problem back here when I know!

Thanks for all your inputs.

I haven't taken it yet (doing that on Friday when I have time)

But I remember moving some dust of the mirror with my finger (stupid I know now)...

Wonder if this has anything to do with it??

As my ex used to say, NEVER put a finger in that hole.... It's just asking for trouble.

I found my images were slightly soft - but turning up the in-camera sharpness to +6 solved it.

Just an update: last night I narrowed it down to an AF problem as it's possible to get sharp shots in MF.

Anyway, on my way now to get it fixed.

Funny, when something goes wrong you can really appreciate how good this not of technology actually is!

Lol well it's under warranty and i'm taking to tomorrow to fixation in London to get it fixed :)

A warranty won't cover this, and if you gave damaged the mirror by touching it this will be obvious to them!

They'll have seen it before...

Hopefully it just needs re-aligning but I would have thought it would still affect MF and the image in the VF if it was this?

Got it back from fixation. All sorted, minor recalibration on the back focusing.

Isn't that just a tweak of the micro adjust? Did they charge you for that??

At least it's sorted, that's the main thing! The mirror would have been expensive (but from now on, keep your fingers out, lol)!

Wouldn't have been expensive for me, it was done under warranty ;) yes! Fingers are staying away now!
