I have the mk1 and I dont have any sharpness isssue with it at all.

That's why I'd like to see some full size direct comparisons on a DX sensor. Everything I've read says not really, except for maybe the extra stop on the VR (which I'm not that bothered about personally).

OK, this isn't exactly what you've been asking for and (Lord knows) I'm not the best person to demonstrate this lens, but here are a few snapshots from my first (snowy) day out with the new 70-200mm f2.8 VR II lens.
In case it's not obvious from the following (processed) shots, this lens focuses very accuratley and offers sharpness across as much of the frame as you care to use (some of mine are cropped).
"Point Break" (water going over a waterfall) @ 200mm, f/2.8, 1/2500th sec.
"Take-Off" @ 200mm, f/4, 1/1600th.
"Jack Frost" @ 170mm, f/8, 1/40th sec.
"Railings" @ 70mm, f/2.8, 1/800th.
"Frozen Pillar" @ 150mm, f/8, 1/80th.
"Church Door" @ 85mm, f/2.8, 1/40th sec.
Whatever these sample shots prove (or don't), I'm sold on this piece of glass! I can finally get the kind of perspectives I've envisiged (for certain subjects), whilst retaining sharpness and shallow DOF. The ultimate test will be when I get to use it for portraits, preferably in natural light, as I think that this is where this lens will really shine!

Shutter speeds now added to image details and all images were taken with VR (normal) switched "ON" (I only remember to switch it off if I'm using a tripod
).
